I discovered feather painting a few months ago (April 2007 ) while surfing ( never thought that I would use that word ) American art sites - there is some fantastic work out there ( and some crap ) - to say that I was impressed is an understatement - i was absolutely gobsmacked, the feather has a subtle sheen to it which makes a fabulous backdrop - I just had to have a go. I had to import the turkey feathers from America
( I know, I know, we have turkeys here - but you try getting good quality english turkey feathers - and they are all white and I didn't want white OK ! ). At about the same time I learnt that Victorian miniaturists would use a pin feather from a woodcock to paint fine detail into their work - hey - I just had to have a go at that as well - so some of the following paintings are done with a woodock's pin feather - see what you think............
"Elephant" painted on to a Turkey Tail feather and decorated with partridge feathers

OK the next four are from a series of eight that I was commissioned to paint for a presentation

they were all painted with different woodcock pin feathers, which I tucked into the button on the decoration.
